Aug 28, 2017 - Former Rajasthan Royals coach Monty Desai landed in Kathmandu on Monday to provide batting tips to Nepali U-19 players preparing for the upcoming ACC U-19 Eastern Region tournament to be held in Malaysia from September 8-18.Desai, also a famous talent scout in India, has been hired as batting consultant for Nepal through the Asian Cricket Council. He will remain in Kathmandu for 10 days and leave for India. Nepali team is travelling to Malaysia on September 8.
Nepal will play Singapore, Thailand and Bhutan in Group ‘A’ of the ACC U-19 Eastern Region tournament which also serves as qualifiers for the upcoming ACC U-19 Asia Cup. Malaysia will also be hosting the ACC U-19 Asia Cup in November.
Only the winners from the tournament will qualify for U-19 Asia Cup to lock horns against the Test nations. Group ‘B’ consists of Malaysia, Hong Kong, China and Myanmar.
Nepali U-19 team coach Binod Das had said he would need a batting consultant to strengthen Nepal’s batting especially after it failed in the ICC U-19 World Cup Division 1 Qualifiers for Asia Region in Singapore.
Nepal had struggled throughout the tournament and were folded for paltry scores of 49 and 99 against Afghanistan in the round robin league games giving a performance that threw them out of the contention for the 2018 U-19 World Cup to be played in New Zealand.
